DESIGN-BUILD CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER AT FORD ISLAND

Customer: Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Hawaii
Location: Ford Island, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, HI

RMA, as a joint venture with ECC, serves as the prime contractor on the design and construction of a new single-story 37,404 square foot Child Development Center (CDC) at Ford Island, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii. The facility will be the tenth CDC at the joint base and will accommodate 304 children ranging in age from six weeks to five years. Designed to complement the existing architecture of the National Historic Landmark Ford Island site, the facility includes 24 activity rooms, training rooms, administrative offices, kitchen, storage, outdoor play areas and a central courtyard.

RMA is collaborating with Designer of Record AECOM to design a facility that will achieve LEED® Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED® innovation and exemplary credits consist of the relocation of existing native monkey pod trees, inclusion of Energy Star appliances and use of wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

RMA recently participated in the groundbreaking and Hawaiian blessing ceremony. The $15.9 million facility is scheduled to complete in early 2012.
