Customer: Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest Division
Location: Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), Miramar, San Diego, CA
RMA is the prime contractor for the design and construction of a single-story maintenance facility at MCAS Miramar. The facility is designed to include both operational space for helicopter blade storage and repairs, and administrative space. The building design and construction consists of slab on grade, interior reinforced CMU walls, reinforced concrete foundation, and a standing seam metal roof.
Scope of work includes new construction of the maintenance facility, including a mechanical/electrical room with exterior access; plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC; electrical systems; site building utility connections; paving and site improvements; window installation; 1 ton hoist monorail system to move blades from non-clean and clean spaces; 46-foot x 10-foot exterior covered storage area for blades; and a motorized roll-up door.
Electrical systems included lighting, power distribution system, telecommunications system, fire alarm and mass notification system, cable TV, and electronic security system.
The building is designed to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council's criteria for LEED Certified rating and will exceed the requirements of the California Energy Performance Standard Title 24 by 30%. Sustainable design features included drought resistant landscaping, extended life cycle 30-50 years, natural day lighting, exterior lighting control, and commissioning for all HVAC systems.
