Customer: Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the General Services Administration (GSA)
Location: Various Locations, Mississippi
RMA performed as the prime contractor to support disaster recovery efforts in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005. RMA was contracted to support military, law enforcement, and other federal agency personnel with complete turnkey base camp support facilities and operations. The contract called for RMA to provide lodging, kitchen units, shower facilities, and morale facilities to U.S. Marshals and military personnel.
RMA provided 20,000 square feet of lodging for daily dining and meal preparation, along with full service support that included fuel, generators, emergency lighting, fencing, security, fire extinguishers, signage, freight, cleaning service, and on-site supervision.
Due to RMA’s ability to rapidly mobilize, FEMA added two additional base camp locations for 1,500 and 750 personnel to our scope of services. RMA provided base camp services for other agencies, including rescue responders, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Marshals, law enforcement personnel, and camp laborers.
Concurrent base camp operations across 310 miles included:
- Gulfport Waterpark, MS – 1,000 occupants
- Vancleave, MS – 1,500 occupants
- Stennis Airport, MS – 750 occupants
- Poplarville, MS – 250 Occupants
The site was fully functional within 72 hours of Notice to Proceed, including the construction of temporary access roads and gravel pathways. RMA’s rapid response and ability to meet the needs of the government resulted in an Outstanding Performance Evaluation from the GSA.
