ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AND REMEDIATION

Customer: U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Southwest Division
LOCATION: Former Marine Corps Station (MCAS) El Toro, CA

RMA is served as the prime contractor on this multi-year contract (2004-2009) to perform soil and groundwater sampling, as well as soil and groundwater remediation, at various contaminated sites at the Former Marine Corps Air Station in El Toro, CA.

At several hazardous waste sites, RMA collected soil samples and evaluated laboratory analytical data to characterize the extent of soil contamination. Once the extent of impacts was identified, RMA excavated this soil to clean up the sites. Our post-excavation soil samples confirmed that all contaminated soil was removed. RMA arranged for off-site transportation and disposal of hazardous waste.

At several underground storage tank (UST) sites, RMA performed groundwater monitoring over a period of years to evaluate concentration trends and verify that monitored natural attenuation was reducing concentrations adequately. At two sites, RMA operated a soil vapor extraction (SVE) system to remove fuel from soil. RMA prepared remediation progress reports and groundwater monitoring reports, coordinated data validation, managed data in a database, and uploaded data into the internet-based state GeoTracker database.
